Depending a little on the database model, but let's say that I have multiple tables that I need to join before I send it to the view. then I'd likely extract the query into a database view that I then query in the controller.

Take this index method as an example.

It uses five tables, and it also handles searching and filtering.

In a basic CRUD application, it's very seldom that you use the exact same query in more than one place.
