Replied to Convert Two State Input Field To Drop-down Component

Sorry sir. I just removed the comments! I hope that the code is more readable now! :)

I think I've found how to do it. Just give me a second to confirm it.

Replied to Convert Two State Input Field To Drop-down Component

Hello there! The second piece of code is from the creation form where the user selects before of after for the specific record (symbol_position is one of the record's fields). The first piece of code is what you get for this field when you press edit in the table of records. So I can't present again the Choose position if I convert it to a drop-down since there is a selection (before or after) already in the database. I hope that I made things a bit clearer.

Started a new Conversation Convert Two State Input Field To Drop-down Component

Hello friends. I have a form that gets created after an edit button is pressed. The specific input field is getting only two values, so I want to convert the input field to a select component. Here is the input field:

<input type="text" class="form-control @error('symbol_position') is-invalid @enderror" name="symbol_position" value="{{ old('symbol_position') ?? $currency->symbol_position }}" required>

The two states are the following (from the create form) :

<select class="select2-single form-control @error('symbol_position') is-invalid @enderror" name="symbol_position" required>
                                            <option value="" disabled selected>Choose position</option>
                                            <option value="before" {{ old('symbol_position') == 'before' ? 'selected' : '' }}>Before</option>
                                            <option value="after" {{ old('symbol_position') == 'after' ? 'selected' : '' }}>After</option>
                                        </select>

Started a new Conversation How To Get More Than One Value From A Database Query?

Hello guys. I have created the following db query using the Laravel DB Facade :

DB::table('currencies')->whereNull('spot_price')->value('shortcode');

The problem with the query above is that I only get one value (for example 'ABC') and I have two records in my table that match these specific criteria. Any ideas on how to get multiple values back?

Thank you very much!

Replied to Is It Possible To Populate A Select Drop-down Menu From An External Api?

@sinnbeck I tried to use this example code in your link but it doesn't seem to work. Here is the code

<div class="form-row">
                                <div class="form-group col-md-6 col-lg-3">
                                    <label>ShortCode</label>
                                    <select class="form-control" name="shortcode" id="formControlSelectShortCode" required>

                                    </select>
                                </div>
                            </div>
<script>

        // Put your script here (that is only necessary for this page)!
        $('formControlSelectShortCode').select2({

                dataType: 'json'
                // Additional AJAX parameters go here; see the end of this chapter for the full code of this example
            }
        });

Hello guys. I am wondering if it is possible to populate a select drop-down menu in a blade template using an external api. I googled this question and all the answers are examples that use a database for the select drop-down menu filling with data. Thank you!

Started a new Conversation How To Start A Cron Job In A Docker Environment

Hello guys. I am running a laradock container on my machine and I have activated 3 services using docker-compose (docker-compose up -d nginx mariadb phpmyadmin). I have created a schedule inside app/Console/Kernel.php

How should I proceed? Does the cron job have to run from nginx or should I run it at docker bash shell? (I connect to it using the following command: docker-compose exec --user=laradock workspace bash)

Replied to I Can't Schedule The Scheduler!

I must state at this point that the complete solution is a combination of my.cnf editing following the above url but with a couple of critical issues. First the user must make the low policy password permanent using the my.cnf file like this :

# Default Homebrew MySQL server config
[mysqld]
# Only allow connections from localhost
bind-address = 127.0.0.1
mysqlx-bind-address = 127.0.0.1
default-authentication-plugin=mysql_native_password
validate_password.policy=LOW

and the second critical step is to alter the user that laravel uses to talk with the database like this :

ALTER USER 'mysqlUsername'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'mysqlUsernamePassword';

Replied to I Can't Schedule The Scheduler!

Thank you for this answer! I see now in the log file that it is a database problem.

Started a new Conversation I Can't Schedule The Scheduler!

I am trying to write to my database every minute but nothing works! If I manually run php artisan schedule:run from the project's directory (I am running on mac os catalina) the following code

protected function schedule(Schedule $schedule)
    {
        $schedule->call(function() {
            DB::insert('insert into external_api (currency_price) values (?)', [5]);
        })->everyMinute();
    }

is running once and it stops.

If i put the php artisan schedule:run command in a crontab job the situation is worse since it never executes itself (not even once!)

Here is the crontab file (I have checked the crontab functionality with a simple file writing and it works so I have no system problems):

* * * * * cd /Users/administrator/Sites/freshProject1/ && php artisan schedule:run >> /dev/null 2>&1
