Just discovered on my project. If you are admin ... then you can post as many times you want but if you register and login as regular user then no.

Changed also in RepliesController?

request()->validate(['body' => 'required|spamfree']);

to

$this->validate(request(), ['body' => 'required|spamfree']);

I have surfed there a lot :) and had to look in documentation too because these forum series are very hard. Also these series are made with older Laravel which makes it even harder but it is good for learning :D

This is my ReplyPolicy.php

    public function create(User $user)
    {
        if (! $lastReply = $user->fresh()->lastReply) {
            return true;
        }

        return ! $lastReply->wasJustPublished();
    }

I quess you know that these series have code in GitHub. I'm usually surfing there and sorting code with history, if something is totally wrong it is easy to compare with my code.

Here, I believe are code changes for spam detection: https://github.com/laracasts/Lets-Build-a-Forum-in-Laravel/commit/21412ffa32a79bf3346f40608ed0fe62f62f7bad

sebraponi left a reply on Session Is Missing Expected Key [errors]. Failed Asserting That False Is True.

I had same problems with assertSessionHasErrors did not figured out exactly why. I believe you can check status because in controller you are sending 422:

$this->post($thread->path().'/athugasemdir', $reply->toArray())
            ->assertStatus(422);

In your controller you have:

request()->validate(['body' => 'required|spamfree']);

You can try to replace it with this:

$this->validate(request(), ['body' => 'required|spamfree']);

sebraponi left a reply on Failed Asserting That Actual Size 0 Matches Expected Size 1.

Had another look in your Thread.php

In your addReply ...

return $this->replies()->create($reply);

replace with this one

$reply = $this->replies()->create($reply);

sebraponi left a reply on Failed Asserting That Actual Size 0 Matches Expected Size 1.

You have removed $this->signIn(); I can see that you don't sign in before creating a thread an subscribing it. And seems that you can remove fresh too ...

So if you try one more time with this code:)

public function a_user_can_clear_a_notification()
    {
    $this->signIn();

        $thread = create('App\Thread')->subscribe();

        $thread->addReply([
            'user_id' => create('App\User')->id,
            'body' => 'Some reply ...'
        ]);

        $this->assertCount(1, auth()->user()->unreadNotifications);
    }

Isn't it so that you have to create another user who creates reply to trigger notification for signed in user?

Shouldn't it be like this in your test:

         $thread->addReply([
             'user_id' => create('App\User')->id,
             'body' => 'Some reply ...'
         ]);

Try fresh() in your test:

$this->assertCount(1, auth()->user()->fresh()->unreadNotifications);

sebraponi left a reply on How Do I Become Good At Programming

Learning to program, not just only specific language, helped me to advance. It was easy to pick up any language after taking a ride with this book (half year): Programming -- Principles and Practice Using C++

Everyone has a different journey and nobody can say one day "There is nothing to learn anymore". So practice every day and you will get better.
