Replied to File Storage Works Locally But Not In Production

This makes sense now. Thanks for your help! Any idea why it would have worked locally? That false sense of right is annoying.

Replied to File Storage Works Locally But Not In Production

I created a rudimentary example outside of Laravel and the symlink works perfectly, so I no longer think it is my server config.

I am using something like<img src="{{ asset('images/logo.svg') }}"> everywhere. Am I meant to have storage/ as part of that string? Like: <img src="{{ asset('storage/images/logo.svg') }}"> ?

It all works perfectly locally with or without storage/ as part of the asset() URL string. Adding solves my immediate problem and I will begrudgingly do it, but I am having a hard time wrapping my brain about why I should need to.

Here is part of my config/filesystems.php. It's straight out of the box. The only addition is a custom disk for spatie's Media Library and Trix.

        'local' => [
            'driver' => 'local',
            'root' => storage_path('app'),
            'permissions' => [
                'file' => [
                    'public' => 0664,
                    'private' => 0600,
                ],
                'dir' => [
                    'public' => 0775,
                    'private' => 0700,
                ],
            ],
        ],

        'public' => [
            'driver' => 'local',
            'root' => storage_path('app/public'),
            // 'url' => env('APP_URL').'/storage',
            'visibility' => 'public',
        ],

Finally, Am I meant to change the FILESYSTEM_DRIVER in my .env from =local to =public in production?

P.S. If anyone can point me a comprehensive deployment guide (without Forge!) I would be most appreciative. It seems to be the one thing lacking in the Laravel community!

I think I've narrowed it to a symlink issue with my host. I'm trying to serve the site under a subdomain on a VPS. I'll ding tech support with my host. Thanks for the direction!

The images work fine when I move them into public. You're on to something with the symlink issue. Thanks!

I am exclusively using asset() in my views, so it's everywhere. Images and storage work as expected locally.

Started a new Conversation File Storage Works Locally But Not In Production

This is my first Laravel deployment, and most things have gone smoothly except that images just will not show. It works as expected on my local machine, but on my VPS, the generated asset URLs just don't work.

I have performed php artisan storage:link (OVER AND OVER) and the symlink is definitely created and works in the command line. Using the standard filesystem config.

I can view images if the URL is https://sub.myapp.com/storage/media/1442/image.jpg, but from the generated asset URLs (https://sub.myapp.com/media/1442/image.jpg) I get a 404.

Any ideas? I have exhausted every forum and Google suggestion. Thanks in advance.
