Replied to Why Doesn't Laravel Vapor Inject ASSET_URL In My Build Step?

Where for do you need the MIX_BASE_URL? For your relative assets?

I set mix.setResourceRoot(ASSET_URL) in my mix file, and together with the example from the Vapor docs, this fixes 100% of the issues.

Replied to Laravel Vapor SnappyPDF Permission Denied

For what it’s worth, we use https://www.api2pdf.com/ to generate our pdf’s.

They render using Chrome Headless (and support other means) and they are basically charging cost price (which is almost nothing).

Replied to Speeding Up Laravel Vapor API Calls

Note that with more memory, you also get more cpu cycles.

It’s worth to test for your ideal memory wise. In many cases, adding a bit of ram makes the request more expensive but due to the added cpu cycles, it finishes faster and ends up costing you less overall.

Replied to How Much Are You Paying After You've Moved To Vapor?

Our cost brake down is the following:

Vapor: $39 Aurora Serverless: $55 NAT gateway: $30 Jumpbox: $8 S3 + Cloudfront: $10 API gateway: free tier Lambda: free tier

Note that this app is relatively small. Also note that we are using a serverless db. Though awesome for scalability, it’s a bit harder on the wallet.

We’re a business based in South Africa. AWS is launching a new region (Cape Town) in June. As soo as that is live (and Vapor supports it) we will move our production apps (~15 million requests / month) to Vapor.

Replied to How Do You Protect Vapor From DDoS Spin Ups?

Set a maximum concurrency for your requests. This is a very easy first step to prevent your bill from exploding.

Granted, if a ddos consumes all your available concurrency, your site will still be unreachable for real customers. But your bill will be predictable.

Note that you can also put Cloudflare (for free) in front of your site. This might even be easier (and probably better?) than Shield.

Replied to Why Doesn't Laravel Vapor Inject ASSET_URL In My Build Step?

I tried adding AWS_DEFAULT_REGION to my GitHub actions script, bit that did unfortunately not work.

Sounds to me that GitHub actions is resetting env variables in some way. Has anyone contacted them about this? Perhaps you, @aligajani ?

Replied to Why Doesn't Laravel Vapor Inject ASSET_URL In My Build Step?

The window.asset_url={} workaround only works for getting the asset url in your ja/vue files, right? This still has the issue of webpack not having the correct base url.

We're having the exact same issue. The deployments works fine on our inertia environment, but as soon as we deployed to our production environment (using GitHub action), the ASSET_URL was undefined.

Is there any verified workaround to get it to work?
