cbernard left a reply on How To Use Database Views In Eloquent?

As has already been stated, a view is really just a pre-canned query. So if I were you, I would use a repository (I use the Prettus/L5-repository), then you would do something like:

public function __construct(DogRepository $repo)
{
    $this->repo = $repo;
}

public function index()
{
    $this->repo->pushCriteria(new AllAdoptedDogsCriteria());
    $model = $this->repo->get()
    ...
}

The AllAdoptedDogsCriteria class basically holds what you would have defined in the database view, but with this method it's easy to create dozens of views/criteria.

cbernard left a reply on Fontawesome PHP Brand Icon Won't Load

Ah ha! Thank you.

cbernard left a reply on Fontawesome PHP Brand Icon Won't Load

This might not be the right place for this discussion but when I do this:

<html>
    <head>
        <script defer src="https://use.fontawesome.com/releases/v5.0.6/js/all.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
</body>
    <i class="fas fa-camera-retro"></i>
    <i class="fas fa-php"></i>
</html>

I can see the camera-retro icon on the page, but I get a flashing exclamation mark/question mark for the fa-php icon.

So that would suggest it's a font-awesome issue rather than a bower issue. Right?

cbernard started a new conversation Fontawesome PHP Brand Icon Won't Load

I've installed Fontawesome using bower, and I ran npm run dev. I can use any of the Fontawesome free brand icons like Quora, Paypal, Amillia, but when I try to use the PHP icon nothing is displayed. Any ideas?

cbernard left a reply on Monitoring Failed Jobs

Thanks! I don't know how I missed that. You can also achieve the same effect using:

class EventServiceProvider extends ServiceProvider
{
    protected $listen = [

        'Illuminate\Queue\Events\JobFailed' => [
            'App\Listeners\FailedJobsListener',
        ],
    ];

...

cbernard started a new conversation Monitoring Failed Jobs

I have a job that will periodically fail and a new entry will be created in the failed_jobs table. What I want to do is trigger a function when the failed_job entry is created. I've tried the following code:

class AppServiceProvider extends ServiceProvider
{
    public function boot()
        {
            \App\Activity::observe(ActivityObserver::class);
            \App\FailedJob::observe(\App\Observers\FailedJobObserver::class);
    }
}

class FailedJobObserver
{
    public function creating($failedJob)
    {
        log::debug(__METHOD__);
    }

    public function created($failedJob)
    {
        log::debug(__METHOD__);
    }

    public function saved($failedJob)
    {
        log::debug(__METHOD__);
    }
}

But the observer never gets called. Anyone got any thoughts?

I'm using the database driver for Queues.
