Replied to How To Run Long Background Processes For Users?

That's a good start for me, thank you. I'm already using websockets so I'm familiar with boardcasting, laravel websockets and echo.

Started a new Conversation How To Run Long Background Processes For Users?

Hi, I'm developing this mail client for a while now, using Laravel of course and webklex/laravel-imap as an IMAP service.

Webklex/laravel-imap now added the option to listen for new messages using idle which is basically a script that runs "forever". Obviously this has to be run asynchronously and I have a little issue figuring out how to set up this architecture.

Basically, like almost any other mail client, user logs in to the mail client and his inbox is shown. When he does connect to the IMAP server I need to run that idle function to listen for new messages and when he does receive a new message it should be broadcasted to a private channel. That script needs to run until his session is over. I was thinking of dispatching a job, but as far as I know another user wont be able to dispatch his "listen for new messages" job until its over for the first user.

Thanks in advance.

Replied to Migrating Wordpress Site

In my experience as a WordPress developer for many years the best way to migrate a website from local to productions is the following way.

  1. Install WordPress on your server and set it up, create a user and log in.
  2. On you local WordPress installation install All-in-one WP Migration plugin and export the website to a file. The file will have a .wpress extension.
  3. On your server also install this plugin and import the .wpress file and run it. When it asks you to overwrite your database, say yes.
  4. After its done everything will be the same as on your local WordPress installation except what differs (url, database name, etc.)

Started a new Conversation Issue With Character Encoding In Eloquent

I've been trying to figure out this issue for two days now. First I thought the charset and collation were the problem. I had it latin1 and latin1_swedish_ci, respectively. I changed it to utf8mb4 and utf8mb4_unicode_ci but that didn't fix the problem.

I went and checked out the same database that's connected to another project, written in CodeIgniter, and everything was fine.

I ran xdebug and this is what i got form Eloquent:

Imgur

And when I dd this is what I get:

Imgur

From what I've read the b stands for binary and that this is not a valid utf8 character, but in CodeIgniter is fine.

Any help would be appreciated.
