SomeT left a reply on Installing A Repo Onto Laravel Forge? • 2 months ago

Apologies misread the instructions worked it out.

SomeT started a new conversation Installing A Repo Onto Laravel Forge? • 2 months ago

After setting up / provisioning my server using Laravel Forge I want to install the following onto it:

https://gitlab.com/tslocum/tinyib

My question is would I better doing step 3 as so:

Run the command: git clone https://gitlab.com/tslocum/tinyib.git ./

and if so what directory do I run this command? (Not familiar with using git command but I am guessing this is what you do, run the git clone command whilst inside the directory you want to clone it to?)

Or would I better off downloading the entire repo then just pushing the repo from my own github to laravel forge?

Are both methods the same really in how they are taken through in Laravel forge?

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

So slim-skeleton still contains the framework still right? @bobbybouwmann

And sorry I did ask this elsewhere but no response and I thought as the conversation was on this subject it would be ok to carry on discussing it.

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

Got it working with the skeleton app, however as I am just starting out with Slim framework, what are the key differences between https://github.com/slimphp/Slim-Skeleton and https://github.com/slimphp/Slim/tree/3.x/Slim is there anything vital the skeleton app is missing?

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

Yeah sorry I kinda got half of it working, why I posted it as solved.

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

Additionally not sure if 'no input file specified' on the live server is a completely different error to this?

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

Update got it working locally by putting the full path to autoload.php in vendor folder.

As for publically I have no idea...

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LEMP Stack? • 2 months ago

Ok no worries, I have done this, I followed the hello world tutorial on the slim site I get the following: http://mycw.pw/ No input file specified.

locally using laragon I get:

Warning: require(/vendor/autoload.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\laragon\www\myapp\Slim\src\public\index.php on line 5

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required '/vendor/autoload.php' (include_path='.;C:/laragon/etc/php/pear') in C:\laragon\www\myapp\Slim\src\public\index.php on line 5

my code of index.php is:

SomeT left a reply on Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean On Laravel Forge Using LAMP Stack? • 2 months ago

In Laravel forge there is no option for add site only add server. I think add site is after you added the server, but do you just do it as digital ocean in this case? Additionally would that not set it up as a LEMP server when what I want is a LAMP server.

SomeT started a new conversation Setting Up A SLIM App Via Digital Ocean? • 2 months ago

You can set up a digital ocean workflow quite easily in forge for laravel. When I do the same in SLIM it does not work, is there something I am missing to get this working? Would I have to set it up as a custom VPN instead?

SomeT started a new conversation JavaScript Pure HTML To AJAX / SQL Database In Laravel? • 2 months ago

I have my variables in Javascript in pure HTML.

I want to move these variables using AJAX or something like this into my database in my Laravel app.

Is there anyway Laravel makes this easier, if so where should I be looking in the docs, videos on laracasts etc... to learn how to do this?

SomeT left a reply on Making This API Code Bring Through More Relevant Data? • 3 months ago

Well here is my latest attempt, I do read them, it is not easy though still is why I ask for help:

https://jsfiddle.net/xv7rajcs/

Main problems are, I can not get it to display only 1 movie and not get it to display the genre anymore.

SomeT left a reply on Making This API Code Bring Through More Relevant Data? • 3 months ago

Is that a attribute within the API 'vote_average.gte'?

SomeT left a reply on Making This API Code Bring Through More Relevant Data? • 3 months ago

This is what I have already tried but now I am stuck.

SomeT started a new conversation Making This API Code Bring Through More Relevant Data? • 3 months ago

I have this code I have written here:

https://jsfiddle.net/dfwq57pz/

However the code does not bring up relevant/modern movies, it brings up random movies that I have never heard of, also I can't get it to skip the movies it does not find.

I wanted to do something like on this website:

https://www.randomlists.com/random-movies?qty=1&dup=false

But it is impossible to contact the owner, view the sites source code etc... I presume they have done it on the backend.

I am thinking I would need to do something as per:

https://developers.themoviedb.org/3/discover/movie-discover

However, when I try to amend my code in the above JSFiddle it does not work. An attempt as such can viewed here:

https://pastebin.com/RkrZ2WKz

Overall to reiterate I want to:

Bring up more relevant movies like https://www.randomlists.com/random-movies?qty=1&dup=false and I think this is the right place possibly to look in the docs?: https://developers.themoviedb.org/3/discover/movie-discover Make it skip movies where it finds missing data, e.g. no movie poster.

SomeT started a new conversation Recommendations For Databases In Laravel? • 3 months ago

I use MySQL for any app I create using the Laravel framework.

I am a bit new to SQL and MySQL so reading in the Laravel documentation I am struggling to learn the 'Database' section. ( https://laravel.com/docs/5.5/database )

I draw out sketches of my databases using ERD diagrams (although they are not very good) I am also a very proficient user of Microsoft Excel.

Basically I am looking for a tutorials, resources, laracasts videos that help me to learn more about how databases are structured, how sql and my sql works on the command line and how it works with laravel? Any of the reccomendations can just focus on one area, e.g. just MySQL.

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

Yeah it is, once I have gone over it a few times, just tired, it is late here in the UK.

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

At the moment I now have:

``// only authenticated users can use the routes in this group Route::group(['middleware' => 'auth'], function() {

// put routes here...
Route::get('/train', function() {
    return view('train');
});

});``

I was basically trying to work out how I do the next parts, but I believe on your most recent code part I would just change home to train, apologies tired.

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

No worries, it helped me to learn because it was wrong. What other things will it break exactly if I do it this way?

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

Many thanks, what I marked as the correct answer you have to be careful not to put .blade.php as I banged my head against a wall trying to work out why it did'nt work until I realised lol.

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

Apologies, but I did reference that in my initial question where even from that video series, I can't find specifically where it addresses this issue? Was it mentioned in a particular video? Because even after going through this I believe I might have missed it or not been paying as much attention as I needed to.

SomeT left a reply on How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

Ok this is what I am confused about, if I did not have a page called home, and say it was called newpage.blade.php, how do I add that as a route in respect of not putting this to the homecontroller? Is that even possible?

I come across Bulma recently which seems promising and from the looks of the docs it does not require jquery:

SomeT started a new conversation How To Add A New Page Viewable Only On Login? • 3 months ago

Using Laravel 5.5.40 LTS with PHP 7.1 based on this: https://laracasts.com/series/laravel-from-scratch-2017/episodes/17 I find this tutorial series does not go into the detail I am after so I am struggling to work out how to do it.

Basically I have created a new page:

newpage.blade.php

I only want it viewable when the user has logged in which means I presume I need to create a new route, ideally I just want to create a route for this because I think that would be easier.

I tried to do stuff like copying and pasting:

Route::get('/home', '[email protected]')->name('home');

and changing home to newpage in web.php for the routes but this does not work.

Can anyone please advise what I need to do to basically add a new page to logged in user view only via routes overall please? And advise if I need to add anything in the controller (Add to HomeController.php or create a new one?) additionally if there is anything I have missed in a laracasts video feel free to point me towards the right video.

So I have been messing around with the code this morning, and I can't work out now how to get it to make each news article a link and also display the image from the news article, like a thumbnail? Maybe this is what Request(url) is for, for the linking of the news article source perhaps?

Thanks @burlresarch Where you have pretty much written the whole thing for me its still given me a lot to think out, but at least I have the code to tinker with and learn from, thanks a lot! :)

SomeT left a reply on Need Help With Parsing The Data From An API • 3 months ago

I done that:

var todaysDate = moment(todaysDate).format('YYYY-MM-DD');
console.log("Todays date is: " + todaysDate);

var url = 'https://newsapi.org/v2/everything?q=soccer&from=' +todaysDate+ '&sortBy=popularity&apiKey=6b6384493350490abac2f85fb6f584e2'

var req = new Request(url);

fetch(req)
    .then(function(response) {
        console.log(response.json());
        obj = (JSON.parse(response));
        console.log(obj);
    });

</script>```

Ended up with that.

Now I have ended up with this in console log and completely baffled: https://i.gyazo.com/11a92eae92e7f534d751b68a23bd7f1b.png

SomeT left a reply on Need Help With Parsing The Data From An API • 3 months ago

I now get error: Uncaught SyntaxError: missing ) after argument list

SomeT left a reply on Need Help With Parsing The Data From An API • 3 months ago

With the following source code: https://pastebin.com/raw/Njj2hkhC

It then displays in chrome console:

https://i.gyazo.com/712adec0099db51d05dbdd83054f08fb.png

However I think the issue might lie in the word title, I did copy this code from another project, so perhaps the attribute of title is not within the JSON data, actually I am 100% certain it is not, but then the problem lies with say appending the headline of each news article where it seems like it is nested in an array I am not sure how to get at it?

SomeT left a reply on Need Help With Parsing The Data From An API • 3 months ago

It is multiple, but in regards to parsing, sorting the data an such it is very confusing especially as it returns it in an array form. I should of explained if you run it as a single HTML file, e.g. index.html it should show the results in the console without the need of any web server.

For this code:

      data = JSON.parse(data);

      if (data.title){
        document.getElementById("testElement").innerHTML =  "<p>" + data.title + "</p";
      }
} ```

This was a bit of a guess if I am honest...

SomeT started a new conversation Need Help With Parsing The Data From An API • 3 months ago

As per my code here:

https://pastebin.com/raw/2BLKYfPh

I am trying to work out how to parse the headlines and images and such to my HTML page using JavaScript, JavaScript is not normally something I touch but have had a go and thus the commented out part of:

/*
.then(data =>{
      if (data.title){
        document.getElementById("testElement").innerHTML =  "<p>" + data.title + "</p";
      }
}
*/

I am just not sure what to do here and how to do it, I keep trying and googling but getting nowhere. If someone could show me how you do it, it would be much appropriated or at least point me in the exact and correct direction for learning how to do this?

Connecting to MySQL database via Laravel forge in DataGrip? How do I achieve this? I tried to type in everything at the default settings, e.g. database name = forge and nothing works it always says connection failed.

Specifically on this screen what kind of information should I be putting in considering most stuff is still at default for my setup?

SomeT left a reply on What Is The Easiest Way To Deal With SQL? • 4 months ago

@jlrdw the answer to your question of why I am already developing was already stated in my initial question, please note "I have an urgent deadline and I have ran out of time on it to learn SQL command line and schema/code wise" I still need to learn it yes, and I will, just for this particular project time is the main issue.

@Everyone else thanks, it was hard to choose a right answer but I think Adminer and DataGrip seem like the best solution. I gave the right answer from those two in this respect to @eojeel as they had the lower xp (I could not figure out another fairer way to do that.)

What is the easiest way to deal with SQL? I have an urgent deadline and I have ran out of time on it to learn SQL command line and schema/code size. Basically by deal I mean implement, manage, administrate etc... ideally something visual like php my admin but simpler than this because I have even struggle with that.

@themsaid I am still trying to work out why I don’t need to run it on three of my servers, does this just mean because these three servers were created a while ago it’s most likely that before a Ubunutu upgrade they had the symlink in place already? How can I check if this symlink exists @bashy ?

1st May, 2018

SomeT left a reply on Having Issues Starting Nginx On Server Reboot • 4 months ago

Out of all the solutions only @bashy 's works.

I emailed forge this question as well, will be interesting to hear what they say, I am still baffled why I have three servers that work fine after upgrades as well and such and they are literally exactly setup the same on all levels.

Thanks for all the responses.

Overall I have one remaining question additional to those three servers working fine question, what does systemctl do in this instance of a problem like this, its just that seemed to be the key thing that got it all working again.
