Connecting to MySQL database via Laravel forge in DataGrip? How do I achieve this? I tried to type in everything at the default settings, e.g. database name = forge and nothing works it always says connection failed.

Specifically on this screen what kind of information should I be putting in considering most stuff is still at default for my setup?

SomeT left a reply on What Is The Easiest Way To Deal With SQL? • 2 weeks ago

@jlrdw the answer to your question of why I am already developing was already stated in my initial question, please note "I have an urgent deadline and I have ran out of time on it to learn SQL command line and schema/code wise" I still need to learn it yes, and I will, just for this particular project time is the main issue.

@Everyone else thanks, it was hard to choose a right answer but I think Adminer and DataGrip seem like the best solution. I gave the right answer from those two in this respect to @eojeel as they had the lower xp (I could not figure out another fairer way to do that.)

What is the easiest way to deal with SQL? I have an urgent deadline and I have ran out of time on it to learn SQL command line and schema/code size. Basically by deal I mean implement, manage, administrate etc... ideally something visual like php my admin but simpler than this because I have even struggle with that.

Had issues with this myself recently, I narrowed it down to my ISP being slow when updating live pages, I have ended up using google dns servers to get around this issue. Probably not the solution but might be worth a try.

SomeT left a reply on Having Issues Starting Nginx On Server Reboot • 2 weeks ago

@themsaid I am still trying to work out why I don’t need to run it on three of my servers, does this just mean because these three servers were created a while ago it’s most likely that before a Ubunutu upgrade they had the symlink in place already? How can I check if this symlink exists @bashy ?

1st May, 2018

SomeT left a reply on Having Issues Starting Nginx On Server Reboot • 2 weeks ago

Out of all the solutions only @bashy 's works.

I emailed forge this question as well, will be interesting to hear what they say, I am still baffled why I have three servers that work fine after upgrades as well and such and they are literally exactly setup the same on all levels.

Thanks for all the responses.

Overall I have one remaining question additional to those three servers working fine question, what does systemctl do in this instance of a problem like this, its just that seemed to be the key thing that got it all working again.

SomeT left a reply on Having Issues Starting Nginx On Server Reboot • 3 weeks ago

I use laravel forge because I am not great with this sort of stuff, although I kind of know what you mean by what you have said, can you elaborate more please on this fix, as so:

1.) How do I start it using Sudo? for security and other reasons I set it up so its a normal log in only. This all works fine on my other servers, unless somewhere along the lines with it being a new server and me setting that up as somehow conflicted such setting this time? 2.) Why and how do I bind a port to port 1024 and is that something specific I set up on nginx or on the server as a whole? Either way how do I achieve this?

SomeT started a new conversation Having Issues Starting Nginx On Server Reboot • 3 weeks ago

I have 5 servers total running through laravel forge, they all have the exact same setup. All running Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS. After doing updates on Ubuntu running the exact same commands and applying the exact same updates (via sudo apt-get upgrade) with now all five servers being identical apart from two of them I get the following issues, basically after initiating reboot command on ubuntu, nginx does not start again as per the below info, however it starts again fine on my other three servers, furthermore I find it a bit strange the servers are all setup pretty much the same, the only difference is two of the servers were setup very recently whilst the others were setup a few months ago.

Looking at nginx logs indicates:

2018/05/01 22:21:28 [emerg] 2598#2598: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (13: Permission denied)

typing the command:

service nginx status

gives:

Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/nginx.service; disabled; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: inactive (dead)
     Docs: man:nginx(8)```

How can I fix this so nginx starts properly? If you require any more information from me feel free to ask.

SomeT left a reply on Simplest Way To Achieve Saving An HTML To A User Login Account Via The `php Artisan Make:auth` Process? • 3 weeks ago

This is the thing, I have gone through laravel from scratch up to about episode 17 (does not show on profile as I download the videos so I can take notes when offline) where you build the auth system then looking ahead I can't see 'specifically' what video goes into detail on what you have mentioned above, either way your information is useful so thanks for that.

SomeT left a reply on Simplest Way To Achieve Saving An HTML To A User Login Account Via The `php Artisan Make:auth` Process? • 3 weeks ago

Is there no tutorial anywhere that goes through this in more detail, especially steps 1 to 4, struggling to get my head around the basics, and yeah I meant the text within the element not the element itself sorry if that was not clear.

SomeT left a reply on Deleted "forge" Db, Refusing To Connect Now • 3 weeks ago

Have you used Git or file versioning or anything like that? Or you could do a new laravel project and just re insert the database files, if you are not using them it don't really matter as long as it makes the rest of your app work. Sorry if thats not a very specific solution.

SomeT started a new conversation Simplest Way To Achieve Saving An HTML To A User Login Account Via The `php Artisan Make:auth` Process? • 3 weeks ago

What is the simplest way to achieve saving an HTML element to a user login via the php artisan make:auth process?

Breaking this down I want to achieve:

  • php artisan make:auth (Done this, in Laravel 5.5.40 LTS and the latest PHP version 7.1 it all works fine)
  • When a user logs in they can amend the HTML element <p>Hello</p> using JavaScript or whatever via an HTML <input></input> box of some sort and say hypothetically they change this <p> element to "Goodbye" string.
  • The user logs out, then logs in the next day on a different computer or in incognito mode in a browser for whatever reason, the text string "Goodbye" is now assigned to there user account only, only they will see this new <p> element string data of "Goodbye" rather than "Hello" unlike the other users.

How would I achieve something like this because either I have missed in the tutorials, it is done automatically or I am not searching for the right methods to achieve this? I understand that would save into a new database / table possibly?

I want to build something similar to twitter as so here:

https://medium.com/@just4sky/rebuild-twitter-with-laravel-timeline-2a2b63ca8e1b

however the key difference is, I still want the follow and followers feature, but 'instead' of tweets, I just want one light/button, this light/button can simply be viewed here: http://aglowo.com it will switch to green or red depending what the signed in user clicks, then save that state of red or green to there profile and other people can view it. Click on the grey circle to see what I mean, at the min it does not save a state. Is it just a matter of building this app as per the tutorial, then somehow or what part of it would I replace the tweets with my new wanted 'save button state' feature for each user profile? How do something like a save state in Laravel for a user profile in this way?

SomeT left a reply on ResetPassword.php Questions • 4 weeks ago

Many thanks for the answers, I think for now changing app name in .env is enough as I am still learning but I keep these questions stored for my future reference.

SomeT left a reply on ResetPassword.php Questions • 4 weeks ago

It sounds like the easiest thing for me to do here, especially as a beginner still learning is edit the .env file.

SomeT left a reply on ResetPassword.php Questions • 4 weeks ago

I forgot to mention I have done php artisan make:auth I am not sure if that makes a difference to your answer @Cronix ? From what you have indicated I need to do php artisan vendor:publish on top of the already done php artisan make:auth to create new templated files for my email reset templates in order for me to edit them outside vendor? Correct?

SomeT started a new conversation ResetPassword.php Questions • 4 weeks ago

For the file located at: \vendor\laravel\framework\src\Illuminate\Auth\Notifications\ResetPassword.php I believe this allows me to edit the default email sent for resetting password however I have two questions before I edit it.

  • If I update this locally will it cause any issues on my live deployment? I usually have vendor folder in my gitignore for deployment thus usual updates around this where I don't normally edit php files, are done within composer.lock and composer.json

  • Even if I did edit this file there are still two parts of the default email I want to change, the wording of Laravel at the top of the email and: 'Regards, Laravel' at the bottom, how would I even edit these because I can't see how in ResetPassword.php?

SomeT left a reply on Sending Mail Using Mailgun • 4 weeks ago

This post has helped me a bit, so basically if you set MAIL_DRIVER=smtp it will not use API key just password, if you set MAIL_DRIVER=mailgun you have to specify again your API key in .env as well as services.php? Is that correct? If not then please can you give me an explanation someone, for me only setting it to smtp works, not tried it by setting API key in .env yet.

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

@Vilfago I believe that is what @Cronix meant, basically you edit the .htaccess I know someone else who did it this way in laravel and it works fine I believe. As to how exactly I guess that is a whole other question, feel free to answer that but I don't mind working out that part on my own.

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

Ok many thanks, your detailed answers have given me a lot more insight into how this all works and such which is useful for a beginner to laravel.

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

@Cronix So basically I am best changing these two back to just asset() for now if I am only using http and not https at all?

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

@Cronix At the moment I have in app.blade.php: <script src="{{ secure_asset('js/app.js') }}"></script> and in the same file <link href="{{ secure_asset('css/app.css') }}" rel="stylesheet"> is it ok to leave this as they are with https disabled in cloudflare? For now I have decided to use only http until I can fix this on the server end, but I presume and please correct me if I am wrong that secure_asset() is a laravel helped that is dual workable? By this I mean if I have an http only domain will my code in laravel all still work with this helper in place or should I change them both to just asset() ?

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

I believe the best solution at this point is disable https completely on cloud flare as it causes nothing but issues, then amend it on the server end as @Cronix mentioned. Many thanks for your responses they have given me a lot to think about.

Thanks, but as that is a completely different answer I am now confused as to which is the correct and best way to now achieve this? Additionally what is the point of https://laravel.com/docs/5.3/helpers#method-secure-asset this if your meant to do it at the server level?

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

I thought cloudflare was at least somewhat what he meant, I am using nginx via laravel forge, is there an easy way for me to do this? What should I be googling, file I should be looking in etc...? Sorry still a bit new to this so this is really tripping me up.

SomeT left a reply on Https For The Full Laravel App? • 1 month ago

I done this already via cloud flare but a lot of URL’s eg forgot password and such which have been auto generated by php artisan still go back to http and cause issues with my site therein. I need to do it at the app level to resolve this I just can’t work out how?

SomeT started a new conversation Updated Laravel But The Vendor Folder Is An Exception? • 3 months ago

On my laravel local website, I did 'composer update' this updated to the latest laravel version fine locally. Now before I deploy it, I don't understand how my site interprets the new version has the only changed file is the 'composer.lock' file, I downloaded a templated .gitignore file that had /vendor to be left out, so before I deploy this composer.lock file, my main question is how is my laravel local updating on the live with just one file thats changed? Without the vendor folder I can't see how it achieves the updated laravel, is there something I need to do on the live server to update laravel?

SomeT left a reply on Confused By Local Environment • 3 months ago

Very good answer, many thanks, I think the only solution I can think of in terms of using two php.exe in the path one from xampp (although not using laravel on this) and one from laragon, is to literally add both of them to the path, in Windows I know it selects them in order of sequence, so if I mostly do laravel development then it makes sense to put the laragon php.exe first I think.

Bit strange you have to run:

php artisan migrate

on the production/remote server end of things, I don't really understand as of yet why you would have to do that for example, for an SQL database?

29th January, 2018

SomeT started a new conversation Confused By Local Environment • 3 months ago

I have laragon installed on windows using php storm, at the moment I can only use composer from the command line in phpstorm, in windows generally, I don't have php.exe set to path at all in my system environment variables, now this is where I am getting really confused, I presume I either add that to my path, use the terminal in laragon or setup a path within phpstorm itself (I don't think that is even possible) then further to my confusion if I did a command then with it setup in whatever way of 'php artisan something something' does that then always add it to my local project ready for deployment right? I don't have to issue the same kinds of php commands again on my remote server? Php artisan thus from my understanding is adding amendments to my local code base thus when I deploy such code bases I don't need to run additional php commands? do I just add laragon/php.exe to path in windows? thing is I have a different version for xampp what I use as well for other php frameworks.
