EasierArt started a new conversation Do People Here Use Angular Over Vue.js Or Do People Here Mostly Use Vue.js With Laravel?

I'm wondering what the optional choice of framework is for people on Laracasts.com :) Just wondering :)

EasierArt started a new conversation Can You Do Everything In Vue.js That You Can In JQuery?

I'm planning on building my first application that will have a medium level of complexity in ui/ux. I'm wondering if Vue.js can do everything that jQuery can do. I know jQuery is getting dated, but it's still wayy more popular than Vue.js so i'm wondering if jumping ship from jQuery and going completely 100% with Vue.js (or Angular for that matter) is worth it.

And second most important question. If I can't do everything I want with vue.js, will there be some resorting back to jQuery? Or will it be almost completely doable for a web application with every based in Vue.js and only some minor normal javascript needed? Or even better yet, if I master Vue.js, can it be my end all be all for creating a web application?

I was in the middle of coding a complex tab menu system and used components using Vue.js but didn't know how to code other functionalities so just focused on implementing it with jQuery now but it became spaghetti code. I'm trying to understand if Vue.js can do everything I need it to do. :)

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Get Socket.io To Listen To Publishing From Redis?

Route::get('publish', function () {
  Redis::publish('test-channel', json_encode(['foo' => 'bar']));
});

I have the above code to publish in my routes file, and when I hit it, I get in my Redis-cli,

Channel: test-channel
Event: undefined
CHANNEL test-channel

I'm stumped on how I can get socket.io to listen to the event (I'm getting confused between the difference of how socket.io listens to a channel, and how laravel-echo listens to a event).

Since I can get the redis-cli to dispaly that it has received a notification in its publication, how do I simply get the browser to show a javascript alert box everytime I go to 'publish' and send a message to the 'test-channel' using Redis?

Any helpful links or guidance would be much appreciated! :)

EasierArt started a new conversation I Rebooted My Computer, But My Redis Related Data On My Local Server Development Website Persisted, How?

Hey Laravel community. I'm working hard practicing Redis right now, to implement some broadcasting related stuff in my Laravel website, and I read that Redis is a in-memory database, from which I understand it uses RAM. I wanted to see if the data persisted (just a key-value pair counting the number of visits/refreshes on one of my Laravel pages - following Jeffrey's tutorial on Redis) and lo and behold, the number of page visit counts reappeared correctly as last stored when I rebooted my computer. So is my RAM somehow persisting the information even when my computer is turned off or is there another way that Redis is somehow persisting the data when I am powering down my computer where my local server Apache is running? :) Thanks! :)

EasierArt left a reply on Broadcasting/auth 404

I uncommented it in config/app.php and am still having problems, unable to find the correct answers on stackoverflow either. I got it working last week, and now i'm practicing on a new app.

EasierArt started a new conversation Pusher: Couldn't Get Auth Info From Your Webapp: 404 - Listening To Private Channel

public channel works perfectly fine, but when I try to utilize private channels, I get the error of 404, couldn't get auth info from your web app.

console shows it is trying to look for laravel-example-page.com/broadcasting/auth under a POST request.

How can I fix this problem to get Pusher and private channels working with Laravel Echo? :) Thanks! Much Appreciated! <3 :)

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Set Up Pusher Authentication For Private Channel?

I read through the documentation and am able to get a public channel with Pusher and Laravel Echo working correctly, but the private channel part and it's authentication portions are stumping me. I made a question here on StackOverflow. Could anyone help me? Thanks so much team! :)

EasierArt left a reply on Why Does Laravel Echo Work In Vue But Not In Normal Js Script Code On The Html Page?

oic, gotchya, I barely know anything about ES6 and stuff right now, I'll stick with what's working so far then. Thanks andonovn :)

EasierArt started a new conversation Why Does Laravel Echo Work In Vue But Not In Normal Js Script Code On The Html Page?

I have the following listener utilizing Laravel Echo

Echo.channel('custom123')
     .listen('testEvent', (e) => {
       alert('hello');
     });

This code works when I place it inside the Vue instance I create in resources/assets/js/app.js but does not work when I include it in a script tag in the html file which the listener is operating on is in. Could someone explain this to me? I don't understand what's wrong. :)

EasierArt left a reply on Any Easy Tutorials On Using Pusher For Laravel 5.4?

I already checked it out, for some reason, they all go over my head, I'm going to get this straight and then make a very basic tutorial of it on my youtube channel once I figured it out because it frustrated me so much.

I'm going over Josh Larson's chat application tutorial right now, but got stuck at the final part where he was doing the broadcasting stuff. ;p

EasierArt left a reply on Any Easy Tutorials On Using Pusher For Laravel 5.4?

Hey, thanks man, I'm trying this out right now! :)

EasierArt started a new conversation Any Easy Tutorials On Using Pusher For Laravel 5.4?

I really want to understand Pusher, but I'm having trouble following the documentation under Broadcasting. All I want to do is set Pusher up in my Laravel environment so that I can send a event, and then have my second page pop up a alert message that its listener has received the event. Is there a basic tutorial on the web somewhere I could follow to accomplish this quickly in a Laravel 5.4 environment? :)

EasierArt left a reply on What Are Good Startup Business Applications That Are Small That I Could Start Programming?

i don't mind incurring liability. I've been working as a manager for a small company essentially running it here in Vancouver, and I'm not learning laravel to become a programmer, but to start up a business. I'm just thinking what the common business ideas are. I'm trying to start conversations with internet marketers and other online solo-trepneurs to find out what kind of application I can create for them as a service. :) I guess I need more time doing self research. I hate learning programming without knowing exactly how I'm going to make money from it, and I dont' necessarily want to work on other people's projects for another whole year. :)

EasierArt started a new conversation What Are Good Startup Business Applications That Are Small That I Could Start Programming?

From my understanding, it's the execution of a business development that is more important than the idea itself. Having said that, I have been learning web development and programming for the last eight months and was wondering what would be some good applications I could start getting created, and be able to get a few (maybe just a few dozen, not aiming big at the moment) SaaS type of customers even if my program is in beta and for free for now, and start building a consumer purchase cycle from ground up? Yes, I'm a noob in web related businesses, which is why I'm asking this question. I have a strong enough drive to want to succeed in this business execution with the Laravel stack, and was wondering what are some simple ideas I could get started with. I know how to create a basic forum/blog/chat application from practice tutorials, and now want to practice or start creating something that will actually be used by other people and provide a measurable benefit to society. :) Thanks Laracast Community!!!!!! :)

EasierArt left a reply on How Good Should I Be Before I Look For Freelancing Clients On UpWork?

thanks for the answers gentlemen, I'll continue to brush up my skills and then hopefully in a few months start small projects with basic needs. :) Learning Laravel is fun, thanks Jeffrey! :)

EasierArt started a new conversation How Good Should I Be Before I Look For Freelancing Clients On UpWork?

I can create a basic blog application using Laravel, but I still got a long way to go. But I'm consistently spending 10-15hours a week when I get back from work studying Laravel to transition into a career as a full-time web programmer. I have worked as a junior front end developer for a year a couple years ago, but haven't been back in the web industry for a while and this is the first time I am seriously learning a php framework. Roughly how deep of a level of an application would be necessary for me to be able to program before I could look for some regular Laravel and Vuejs related projects? I have to brush up on my Vuejs skills as well. I've been studying consistently for a bit and am trying to grasp how much longer I'll have to continue working at my current non web programming workplace before I can jump ship into a full time backend web developer job. Thanks for your answers! :)

EasierArt left a reply on How Do I Select Random User_id In ModelFactory.php?

and I ended up using something like this :)

use App\User; // Assuming this is your User Model class with namespace.

$factory->define(App\Reply::class, function (Faker\Generator $faker) { return [ 'thread_id' => 1, 'user_id' => User::all()->random()->user_id, 'body' => $faker->paragraph ]; });

EasierArt left a reply on How Do I Select Random User_id In ModelFactory.php?

sorry I'm noob, where can I read about the differences between the create() function and the make() function? Is it all part of phpunit or something? I'm quite new to programming in general. Thank you for helping me out abusalameh :)

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Select Random User_id In ModelFactory.php?

I have the following code:

$factory->define(App\Reply::class, function (Faker\Generator $faker) { return [ 'thread_id' => 1, 'user_id' => factory('App\User')->all()->random()->user_id, 'body' => $faker->paragraph ]; });

I have pre-created several users in the Users table and would love to make a random user_id generation to attach to the replies data that I am seeding. The 'all()' command isn't recognized, and I'm wondering what the right way to do this is. Thank you.

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Input My Customer Variable Into $user = User::create(request(['name', 'email', 'password']));

I have the line of Laravel code

$user = User::create(request(['name', 'email', 'password']));

how do I input a customer variable for password so instead of using request()->password, I use $password.

Sorry, I am not very good with Laravel yet, I don't know what the proper syntax is. Thank you.

EasierArt left a reply on How Do I Use Auth::attempt To Log A User In?

I tried to change the password into the hashed version of it with the following code:

  request()->password = Hash::make(request()->password);

  $user = User::create(request(['name', 'email', 'password']));

I didn't work however. I tried searching for the merge helper function with no luck. How do I correct my syntax so that the hashed version of the password is stored into the Users table?

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Use Auth::attempt To Log A User In?

I'm following the Laravel 5.4 From Scratch series on lesson Associating With Users: Part 2

I made the user registration form to submit new users into the database and have the following in my registration controller: public function registerStore() { $this->validate(request(), [ 'name' => 'required', 'email' => 'required|email', 'password' => 'required|confirmed' ]);

  $user = User::create(request(['name', 'email', 'password']));

  auth()->login($user);

  return redirect()->home();
}

This properly submits a new user in the users table in Laravel.

Next, I want to be able to log in with one of the users I have created and I have the following in my controller: public function loginSubmit() { $email = request('email'); $password = request('password');

  if (Auth::attempt(['email' => $email, 'password' => $password])) {
    return 'logged in';
  } else {
    return 'not logged in';
  }

This always returns 'not logged in'. I checked in the database and the passwords are not hashed and from the laravel documents I've read that the attempt function (facade?) checks for the hashed version of the password and I was thinking maybe this is the problem? How do I get the password to be entered in as hashed when first registering the user? And how do I get the Auth::attempt function to work?

And how do I make code appear as code in my questions? Sorry, I'm new here.

EasierArt left a reply on How Do I Add New Components And Make Them Work In Laravel 5.4?

Thank you andonovn, I appreciate that answer quite a bit :)

I just joined Laracasts yesterday to start learning properly :)

Thanks!

EasierArt started a new conversation How Do I Add New Components And Make Them Work In Laravel 5.4?

I'm having difficulty adding new components or updating the existing Example.vue component that ships with Laravel. I'm trying to follow along with this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL-dJcxC8X8 I want to be able to use the Vue that comes packaged together with Laravel but am having difficulty doing so. I also asked questions here on Stack Overflow but wasn't able to find a working solution after I implemented other people's answers. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/43312756/how-do-i-make-example-vue-update-in-laravel
