Replied to One To One Relationship From The Same Table

The question is actually complete and quite long, but I do not know why only part of it appears. Sorry.

Started a new conversation One To One Relationship From The Same Table

Hello everybody,

I have a table of people called 'members' table. From the members, I need to create relationship between different people as spouses. So I created another table called 'spouses' table. My migration for the two tables are below:

Members table:

<?php

use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Schema;
use Illuminate\Database\Schema\Blueprint;
use Illuminate\Database\Migrations\Migration;

class CreateMembersTable extends Migration
{
    /**
     * Run the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function up()
    {
        Schema::create('members', function (Blueprint $table) {
            $table->bigIncrements('id');
            $table->string('name');
            $table->string('gender_id');
            $table->bigInteger('user_id');
            $table->timestamps();
        });
    }

    /**
     * Reverse the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function down()
    {
        Schema::dropIfExists('members');
    }
}

Spouses Table:

<?php

use Illuminate\Support\Facades\Schema;
use Illuminate\Database\Schema\Blueprint;
use Illuminate\Database\Migrations\Migration;

class CreateSpousesTable extends Migration
{
    /**
     * Run the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function up()
    {
        Schema::create('spouses', function (Blueprint $table) {
            $table->bigIncrements('id');
            $table->bigInteger('member_id')->unsigned();
            $table->bigInteger('spouse_id')->unsigned();
            $table->foreign('member_id')->references('id')->on('members')->onDelete('cascade');
            $table->foreign('spouse_id')->references('id')->on('members')->onDelete('cascade');
            $table->timestamps();
        });
    }

    /**
     * Reverse the migrations.
     *
     * @return void
     */
    public function down()
    {
        Schema::dropIfExists('spouses');
    }
}

My Models are:

Member Model

<?php

namespace App;

use Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Model;

class Member extends Model
{
    protected $fillable = ['name', 'gender_id', 'user_id']; //user_id is for the user who input the data//

    public function spouse()
    {
        return $this->hasOne(Member::class, 'spouses', 'member_id', 'spouse_id');
    }

    public function add_spouse($spouse_id)
    {
        $this->spouse()->save($spouse_id);
        $spouse = Member::find($spouse_id);
        $spouse->spouse()->save($this->id);
    }
}

Spouse Model

<?php

namespace App;

use Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Model;

class Spouse extends Model
{
    protected $table = 'spouses';

    public function member()
    {
        return $this->belongsTo(Member::class, 'spouses', 'spouse_id', 'member_id');
    }
}

When I run it, it gives me the following error:

"Argument 1 passed to Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Relations\HasOneOrMany::save() must be an instance of Illuminate\Database\Eloquent\Model, string given, called in C:\Apache24\htdocs\ctz\app\Member.php on line 18

What did I do wrong with the code? Please help. Many thanks.

Replied to Make A Hierarchical Structure For Instances Of A Model In Laravel

@AHMADBADPEY - I am sorry, this is an old thread, but I am having a similar problem. So did you finally solve this? If so, would you mind sharing your solution?

Many thanks,
