Hello, I just tried artisan serve, that doesn't work either. I get this error message: -bash: artisan: command not found.

For the life of me I cannot figure out the problem. I've been searching and trying things for HOURS. I've tried quite a few commands to stop apache, including "sudo apachectl stop" which returns:

/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist: Could not find specified service

"sudo apachectl -k stop" returns

AH00557: httpd: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for ______ AH00558: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using Set the 'ServerName' directive globally to suppress this message httpd (no pid file) not running.

I also tried uninstalling MAMP, restarting valet, attempting to change the port for valet, but valet won't allow me to do that. Restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled php, I'm out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I really wanted to learn laravel but I may have to move on to something else since I cannot even get the environment running...

Thanks for the reply, I ran sudo apachectl stop, then tried to do "valet open" again, it's still saying "it works!"

I'm having trouble with a new laravel app. I'm VERY new to Laravel. When I type in "Valet Open" in terminal, I do not get the typical "Laravel" start screen that I see in tutorials, instead I just see "It Works!" I've searched and searched trying to figure out how to fix this, but to no avail. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

kims left a reply on Can't Install PHP7?? • 9 months ago

Thank you for the welcome and for your help. I did figure out what went wrong. I had to type in:

export PATH=/usr/local/php5/bin:$PATH

in terminal for it to show the newly downloaded version of php on my machine. Otherwise, it continues to show the older version when typing in php -v. So yep! Thanks!

Hello, I'm new to php and I'm trying to install PHP7 to my computer. I already have PHP 5.6.28 installed (this is what comes up when typing php -v in terminal). I want to get the latest stable version and I've tried installing it via homebrew. I've looked at the laracast instructions, but it did not work. I believe php7 is on my machine, but when I type php -v, it still says PHP 5.6.28 I've looked at several internet solutions for installing and it did not work either. Is there a fool proof way to install/use php7 that I may have missed?
