Replied to Laravel For Just Console Apps

@snapey I wish there could be two best answers. ReactPHP looks awesome. I'm definitely going to check it out. Right now I'm using Laravel Passport as a backend for my React Native development, and I never even thought of or heard of ReactPHP, that's pretty cool.

@jlrdw That's what I was looking for. Thanks.

Started a new Conversation Laravel For Just Console Apps

Is there a Laravel variant that I can install that is just for console apps? I could pretty easily tear down the front end of a default installation if need be, but it would be nice to know.

Note: Yes, I did try Google. Google is becoming useless now that they are abandoning PageRank, and Bing is not better. Also, I end up with results from 10 years ago. You guys are much better than Google. I did search Laracasts but didn't see exactly this.

Replied to Scheduled Task Question

cool. I'll just check to see to if it works with my rig. Thanks.

PS I tested it and it works on ->call()

Started a new Conversation Scheduled Task Question

I got this bit of code off of the Laravel documentation:

$schedule->command('report:generate')
         ->timezone('America/New_York')
         ->at('02:00');

The question I have, just to be perfectly certain, is does this code run EVERYDAY at 2pm, or does it run once?

If it helps, this is a link to the docs.

https://laravel.com/docs/7.x/scheduling#timezones

Also, some methods don't work on call(). Can I do this?

$schedule->call(somefunction)
         ->timezone('America/New_York')
         ->at('02:00');

Started a new Conversation How To Add Bootstrapjs

So a few versions ago, probably Laravel 5.7, I used

php artisan preset none

to remove the default scaffolding from my project.

I have since upgraded to Laravel 6.1, and now I am having trouble putting bootstrap js back. This my app.js in resources/js/app.js

require('jquery');
require('./boostrap');

resources/js/bootstrap.js imports lodash, but does nothing else. I have an entire folder in node_modules/bootstrap that has bootstrap.js modules, and nothing is linked to the resources folder. How do I do that? Do I have import each js modules, such as 'alert.js' or 'modal.js'

According to StackShare, MasterCard uses Laravel. I'm not sure in what capacity.

EDIT to say the MasterCard page is community generated, so needs verification.

Replied to Can't Login To Mysql With Correct Credentials

I actually got it working pretty well. For a while. I haven’t looked at it recently. But the way I did it, was installing it by composer. This installed an earlier version, with neo4j graph database. It was pretty cool stuff. Thank you for putting it together.

Replied to Is Laravel A Good Choice For A Startup?

Laravel and its syntactic sugar allowed me to write sophisticated and mission critical web apps all by myself in not a lot of time.

It doesn't benchmark as well as some Java and Java derivative frameworks but it also doesn't need a building full of programmers.

$post->description = json_encode($variable->rss->channel->item->description);

Replied to Property Or Method Is Not Defined On The Instance But Referenced During Render

Just a stab in the dark. Usually when that happens to me, well, there's a kind of provenance to data structures that sometimes gets tossed around during the request. So sometimes, myObject.myProperty is actually myObject[0].myProperty. And the only way to find out is by console logging the variable to developer tools console. FWIW

Replied to Need Tech. Advise About Technologies To Choose And Framework

Laravel is a PHP framework. It provides a backend for JS frameworks like React and Vue and it ships with them. But if you make this Node, it's no longer Laravel.

You might have to loop through the array to encode it. I don't remember if json_encode is recursive.

Activity icon

Replied to Save Nested Array In Database

To save JSON.

$variable = MyTable1::get();

$json_encoded = json_encode($variable);

$saved_array = new MyComplexTable;
$saved_array->my_json_column = $json_encoded;
$saved_array->save();

Then to retrieve JSON simply use:

json_decode($json_data);

Use JSON object notation. In the database use datatype JSON for MySQL ^5.7 and use datatype TEXT for mySQL 5.6 and earlier.

Has anyone here played with Ubuntu 20.04?

I got it up and running ago but having problems with SSL on MySQL remote connections. This is a major upgrade, and it going to cause a lot of refactoring....

Bleeding edge PHP, MySQL, etc.

Have you tried 20.04 and if so, what are you encountering?

Started a new Conversation Brute Force Attack

So, I detected a brute force attack that seems to stem from or involve zMeU. The best I can tell, they didn't get in, but I'm getting what appears to be private IP addresses in my apache logs. How are they accessing private IP addresses when they appear not to know what's on my server?

Here are benchmark tests.

https://www.techempower.com/benchmarks/

Note that Laravel scores pretty low, but so do most popular frameworks such as Rails or Django. Java ACT appears to have to scored the highest on the fortune cookie test, but I investigated it for my use case, and it appears that it's proximity to raw Java is one reason it does well. (I don't have time to write Socialite for Java).

Note that raw PHP scores much higher than most popular frameworks.

My use case isn't a major enterprise like FedEx, but Laravel is a powerful framework for our small enterprise that has allowed me to single handedly write a Hipaa compliant app in not a lot of time. Think of all the Web apps/Websites that aren't public facing. Laravel has allowed me to do sophisticated and secure things that other frameworks might not, because Laravel has the features.

And also, because it is PHP, deployment is a breeze.

Started a new Conversation "field" In A CS Thesaurus.

In an RDS database, a field is a kind of entity in a table. For example, one kind of thing, like first_name, last_name, etc.

I learned today that in OOP, a field is a kind of entity in a class... an instance variable in other words.

Does this mean that RDS databases are essentially an Object Oriented structure made up of many classes and many fields? Or is it just a happy accident?

Replied to Options For Bug Tracker Integration With Laravel

Did you find a solution? I find myself in the same situation and I don't know where to begin. My first thought was to use gitHub's bug reporting, but I know that's not "user friendly" enough for the people who will be using my apps, so then I thought maybe if I wrote an interface within my Laravel App that sent the bug report to gitHub.

Is such a thing even possible?
