Replied to Laravel Passport Unauthenticated After Composer Update

After more digging I found that my application is failing at the getTokenViaCookie method in the TokenGuard.php class. If I dd the exception i was getting a Syntax error, malformed JSON error. So I cleared cookies and added serialize = true in the EcryptCookies middleware

class EncryptCookies extends BaseEncrypter
{
    /**
     * The names of the cookies that should not be encrypted.
     *
     * @var array
     */
    protected $except = [
        //
    ];

    protected static $serialize = true;
}

I am now getting a "Malformed UTF-8 characters" error.

Anybody have any input?

Started a new Conversation Laravel Passport Unauthenticated After Composer Update

I posted this question on stackoverflow last night, but there has been no activity. Wondering if someone on here could help?

I've been working in this application for several years and while doing some updates my passport authentication broke. I update from passport 7.2 to 7.5 and it broke. I then updated to passport 8.5 and it still doesn't work.

I am getting the 401 {error: "Unauthenticated."} error.

I am using

  • Laravel 7.28.1
  • Passport 8.5.0
  • Laravel Valet
  • PHP 7.3

I am attempting to consume my own api and I've followed every solution I found on the internet, but no dice. I can access the routes using postman with an access token and if I move the route outside of the auth:api middleware, but I want to access the routes within the auth:api

Here is my current config.

AuthServiceProvider.php

public function boot()
{
    Passport::routes();
}
protected $middlewareGroups = [
        'web' => [
            \App\Http\Middleware\EncryptCookies::class,
            ... other middleware
            \Laravel\Passport\Http\Middleware\CreateFreshApiToken::class,
        ],

        'api' => [
            'throttle:60,1',
            'bindings',
        ],
    ];

In auth.php

'guards' => [
        'web' => [
            'driver' => 'session',
            'provider' => 'users',
        ],

        'api' => [
            'driver' => 'passport',
            'provider' => 'users',
            'hash' => false,
        ],
    ]
]

bootstrap.js

window.axios = require('axios');

window.axios.defaults.headers.common = {
    'X-CSRF-TOKEN' : document.querySelector('meta[name="csrf-token"]').getAttribute('content'),
    'X-Requested-With': 'XMLHttpRequest'
};

in a component.vue file

axios.get('/api/users?page=' + page).then((response) => {
    //
})

I've cleared configs and ran php artisan optimize:clear and about a dozen of other things that I can't thing of right now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Started a new Conversation Laravel Package Service Layer

I am creating a packages that creates a model using a service layer. For example

class CreateModelService
{
	public function create(): Model
	{
		// creates model
	}
}

I use this service class to create models within the package, but I also want to allow models to be created from within the app itself but I can't come up with a good solution.

Newing up the service class and DI feels weird for some reason. I thought about just placing the logic within the package's main class i.e PackageName::createModel() but not sure if it's good practice. Any tips or advice on my problem?

Replied to Message Reminder

Thank you both for your reply. Snooze looks pretty promising so I'll give that a try for now. The most likely scenario is most conversations will be unanswered.

Started a new Conversation Message Reminder

Hey guys,

I am looking to remind a user 24 hours after a message was sent to their conversation. For example if you and I are having a conversation and I message you and you hadn't had a chance to reply you would get a reminder email 24 hours after I sent the message.

I was thinking about adding a job to the queue table and if you message me back then we'd simply remove all queued reminders from the table (that are attached to given conversation) and then queue another reminder to me.

I am not sure if this is the best solution to the problem so I wanted to reach out for some feedback.

Basically when a message is saved we'd do something like this

public function store() {
    Message::create():
    // query jobs that are attached to current conversation... Is this even possible?
    ReminderEmail::dispatch($conversation)->delay(now()->addHours(24))
}

There are few more things I need to work out, such as querying jobs attached to a conversation. Any idea on how to approach this?
