Has anyone heard the same? Or is it a known thing?

I have started work in a large .net organisation. My background is PHP but that's irrelevant as I'm a PO in this place, so I'm not coding. However someone said to me I should get into Laravel as it would give me an understanding of .NET.

Nonsense?

@moyvera thanks I really appreciate your help. I am working my way through the tutorials and I am just about getting to the front end stuff. This is where I encountered the problem - Jeffrey told me (in the video) to run npm run watch so that my css changes would be monitored - and this is where the whole problem started for me.

I have now resolved this, thanks to you, but my css changes are still not updating in the front end.

Sigh.

Hi @desloc just wanted to say thanks as your solution, adding

../../../

solved my problem in Atom. Thank you,

Mickc left a reply on Laravel New App - Is This Correct? • 4 months ago

Also @moyvera I do not know exactly what

npm run dev

Does, I was following along with a video tutorial when this error derailed me.

Thank you @moyvera - this has resolved the issue for me. May I ask if you know why this is necessary, and why the packages aren't created at time of app creation?

Thanks again.

@fkiesnh - You should really explain what you did to solve your problem. Very frustrating to just find this thread (as I am having the same problem you were) only to have you say "I found the problem and fixed it".

@erikverbeek - Thank you so much for providing your solution. This also helped me out. Cheers.

Looking at this line in the error output:

npm ERR! Failed at the @ watch script 'cross-env NODE_ENV=development node_modules/webpack/bin/webpack.js --watch --progress --hide-modules --config=node_modules/laravel-mix/setup/webpack.config.js'.

I can tell you that I do not have a "laravel-mix" directory in my node_modules directory.

@moyvera - Thank you. I ran that command and it looked like it did something successful. I then re-ran my original command (amp run watch) and this error was produced:

I am having real frustrations with Laravel. I have another thread on the go which is dealing with a specific Node / NPM issue.

This thread is querying wether or not all the necessary files are being created when I create a new laravel app.

Below are the files / folders created in my brand new app. Created by running "larval new app" in terminal.

I am getting huge errors when I try to run "npm run watch" or "npm run dev"

.env
.env.example
.gitattributes
.gitignore
app
artisan
bootstrap
composer.json
composer.lock
config
database
package.json
phpunit.xml
public
resources
routes
server.php
storage
tests
vendor
webpack.mix.js
yarn.lock

I would attach a screegrab but I don't think this forum has that functionality?

@martinbean: It can be - and in recent times it is very often - used to address anyone in a position of seniority.

Similarly the term "Actress" has been largely dropped as everyone regardless of gender, is referred to as an "Actor"

@vipin93 Thanks for the tip - I'll try this when I get home. But shouldn't this be addressed at source rather than users having to implement hacky fixes?

I've done a bit more debugging and have found that there is no "larval-mix" directory inside node-modules.

Very confused right now. The script is looking for this

node_modules/laravel-mix/setup/webpack.config.js

and there is no such file in my Laravel install.

Mickc left a reply on Am I An Idiot? • 4 months ago

Which recent post?

Mickc left a reply on My Developer Friend's Opinion On Laravel • 4 months ago

So what's hearing is.... this is nonsense yeah?

What are the benefits of symfony then? Why do some people think it is "better"?

Mickc started a new conversation Am I An Idiot? • 4 months ago

I can do anything in flat PHP, and I can do it quickly.

However I decided to learn a framework and I chose Laravel. However I'm frustrated with the learning curve. Something as simple as taking form inputs and writing them to a database is killing me. Laracasts is great but I'm frustrated because I'm like - I can do this in 2 seconds just in straight PHP.

Am I too stupid for laravel?

Is it worth persevering?

Mickc started a new conversation My Developer Friend's Opinion On Laravel • 4 months ago

I have a few friends who are big on Symfony and were appalled when I told them I was learning laravel.

They say with laravel you don't learn to be better at PHP - you learn to get better with laravel. And ultimately you will become a laravel developer as opposed to a PHP developer.

What are your thoughts on this?
