Replied to Should I Start With Laravel 6 Or Master 5.xxx?

I think Statamic 3 will be Laravel 6 compatible, so Laravel 6 will be fine to start with.

Replied to Which Laravel Version To Use For Newbies?

@sandynasution As the series mentioned by @nakov is still in development, and the main stuff is not yet created, I'd suggest viewing this series first https://laracasts.com/series/laravel-from-scratch-2018 It introduces Laravel really well. Then view this series https://laracasts.com/series/whats-new-in-laravel-6 to see what is new in Laravel 6. This will give you a really well background to start learning Laravel. Also, I'd suggest reading Matt Stauffer's Laravel: Up & Running. A really good book with a wide range of topics discussed.

Replied to MySQL 5.7 Has Gone Away

I ended up installing MySQL 8 with Homebrew and switching to it. It seems it has resolved the issue. Thanks everyone for input!

Activity icon

Replied to MySQL 5.7 Has Gone Away

@resin The issue was suspected to be Packet Too Large if max_allowed_packet is more than 1GB. So lowering the value could resolve it if it was the issue. However, it was not. If MySQL goes away, I am afraid, Telescope could hardly be of any help.

Activity icon

Replied to MySQL 5.7 Has Gone Away

Setting max_allowed_packet to a lower value (500 MB) didn't resolve the issue. So it still persists. Anyone having the same issue?

Thanks @tomopongrac It is set to 1073741824 by default and I think it is considered as 1 GB as it is suggested here https://prnt.sc/p9q1xu

I didn't find on the web on how to change brew installed MySQL config. Any tips will be appreciated.

Started a new Conversation MySQL 5.7 Has Gone Away

Hi!

My MBP MySQL 5.7 (installed via Homebrew) goes away regularly, 10-15 times a day, even after simple selects of not much data. Did anyone have the same issue? Is there any way to solve this?

Thank you all in advance.

Replied to Should I Use Laravel 6 Or Continue With Larvael 5.8

@szach It much depends on the custom packages you have in your application. If they are not many, you may check if they are compatible with Laravel 6, if they are many, most likely you'll need to hold off with upgrade until all of them get updates. If you do not have 3rd party packages, you may go ahead and upgrade to Laravel 6 and start using the latest version.

Replied to ERROR 1449 (HY000): The User Specified As A Definer ('mysql.infoschema'@'localhost') Does Not Exist

@greyeyes I'd create a new user in MySQL, grant privileges on the database and try to use it instead or do the same for an existing user.

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'someuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'complex-password';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Replied to SSH Key Issue

@antlusher From AWS documentation:

Confirm that you are using the private key file that corresponds to the key pair that you selected when you launched the instance.

Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/.

Select your instance. In the Description tab, verify the value of Key pair name.

If you did not specify a key pair when you launched the instance, you can terminate the instance and launch a new instance, ensuring that you specify a key pair. If this is an instance that you have been using but you no longer have the .pem file for your key pair, you can replace the key pair with a new one. For more information, see Connecting to Your Linux Instance if You Lose Your Private Key.

You may read further here https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/TroubleshootingInstancesConnecting.html#TroubleshootingInstancesConnectingSSH

Replied to Authentication In Another Contorller

@afoysal

This line is not needed

$user = $request->all();

You already created a user using the request here.

$result = User::create($request->all());

You have a user instance already assigned to $result variable. So as @emadiga said, just pass it to Auth::login()

Auth::login($result);

Read the docs https://laravel.com/docs/6.x/authentication#other-authentication-methods Authenticate A User Instance, Authenticate A User By ID etc.

@andreas94 Are you placing Laravel in public directory and the forum root in public/forum directory? If yes, forum .htaccess has to be in /forum directory, so it can not conflict with /public directory .htaccess.

Replied to Forge Is Down

@otrsw Didn't do that. And, yes, it would be helpful to know where to contact/monitor the issues resolution with Forge. It is a servers provision and deployment solution, so we may not just see it is down and wait when it'll be back. A service status page of some kind would be very helpful.

Started a new Conversation Laravel 5.8 Or 6 For New Projects

Hi all!

Yesterday tried to install Telescope on Laravel 6 and it has thrown an error. So the question is should Laravel 5.8 be used for new projects or Laravel 6? When Laravel 6 is officially released, will 3rd party packages be compatible with it? What version is reasonable to use this period?

Replied to Setting Up Valet

@bobbybouwmann Yes, but browsers are enforcing SSL for those TLDs, so you should disable this on browsers too. Too much trouble to just have .dev or .app as your valet TLD. IMHO.

Activity icon

Replied to Setting Up Valet

I wouldn't suggest to use .dev TLD for Valet domains. It enforces SSL for all domains which may not be what you want in all cases (.dev is a top level domain, btw). The same for .app domain.
