Replied to Sail Node Version

I can manually specific which version of Node to install by modifying vendor/bin/sail/runtimes/8.0/Dockerfile (lines 32-33):

&& curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_15.x | bash - \ # change this line to whatever version you want
&& apt-get install -y nodejs \

However, this isn't really a solution because any updates to Sail will overwrite this. It would be great if there was a way to manually specify Node versions in the docker-compose.yml file.

@neilstee Thanks for the reply.

When I run node --version inside the Laravel.test container, it is using the latest version (currently v15.14.0). Is there a way I can use LTS (v14.16.1) instead of Latest?

Replied to Laravel Sail .env Confusion

@neilstee Thanks for the reply but it didn't work.

I think this may be a bug with Sail using the first file if finds that starts with ".env". If I change .env.dev to dev.env or something that doesn't start with .env, then it works as expected.

Started a new Conversation Sail Node Version

Is it possible to choose a different version of Node or NPM when building a project with Sail? I know you can choose different versions of PHP with:

# PHP 8.0
context: ./vendor/laravel/sail/runtimes/8.0

# PHP 7.4
context: ./vendor/laravel/sail/runtimes/7.4

Is there something similar I can modify in my docker-compose.yml for Node versions?

Started a new Conversation Laravel Sail .env Confusion

My project has .env.dev file that with things like the AWS S3 key and APP_KEY left intentionally blank. The idea is you clone the project, make a copy of .env.dev and name it .env, then fill in what you need.

Problem is when I use Sail, it seems to prefer using the .env.dev.

For example, if I run sail up -d and then sail artisan key:generate, it will generate an APP_KEY in .env, but when I go to the home page I get an error saying application key not found. When I click "Generate a key" it puts a key in .env.dev

Is there a way I can force sail to use .env and not .env.dev? Is it something I can change in my docker-compose yaml file?
